Pitch for new track - Blackalicious - side to side

For our new music video idea we have changed our previous pitch idea due to the fact that we had to change our initial track as we had another group who are using the same previous track.

We selected a track from Blackalicious called "side to side" which mainly emphasises the behaviour of 3 rappers towards females and the hip hop community.

Our initial ideas include using a club to illustrate the narrative the track portrays and several other locations to meet the needs of the track. We feel as a group that the track is fairly up-tempo and has an element of fun attached to it, therefore we will bring this to the table when compiling ideas and shots. We also wish to make the video stereotypical in terms of the hip hop genre and association linked to previous productions made. We will do this by stylistically incorporating ideas used before with a funky twist added.

Test Footage

This video is not exactly what we wanted to capture , but it does display some key Fx that we may include in our final piece also some ideas may be incorporated as they to touch upon some themes that could maybe used. it has no narrative but gives a feel as it ties in with the audio track

Blackalicious (Gift Of the Gab and Lateef The Truth Speaker)

Labels:

Feedback From Animatic

. Performer - Needs to be thought out and right for the role
. Locations - Find an adequate nightclub or bar for the shots that we want and reflect the mood/atmosphere
. Positive Feedback - Good variation of shots and locations. The way the video describes the narrative of the track. It gives across a stereotypical vibe for a hip-hop/rap video.

Side To Side Lyrics

[Verse One: Lateef The Truth Speaker]
When you first walked in and I saw you at the bar or somethin'
I ain't really wanna holler or nothin'
I just pegged you as the type for frontin'
Steady chucklin' with your girlfriends actin' contrary and cluckin'
But ya song came on, and somethin' changed in the way she was movin' along
Eyelashes caught flashes of the possibilities, maybe this one is the one for me
She's movin' to the dance floor, we'll see
What I seen was inspirational, highly motivational
Had to maneuver the set, up to confrontationals
Even though it was my chance to mack
I already did my dance, had the reservoir tapped
Hit me like a thunder clap, though
Can't let somethin' that fat pass BY, why asks why?
Made my way through the crowd with the side to side
Then I pushed up on the tush 'cause, uh, I ain't shy!
Said, "Excuse me Miss, but I liked what I saw"
When she spoke, I damn near dropped my jaw!
HELL NAW! I can't believe she SAID that shit!
I need to call my sister, "Come up through and check this chick!
And put some sense in her, cause her IQ 'bout six"
Bein' that, stu-pid in pub-lic there should be a law against
I mean, she didn't have a CLUE, tell you what to do
Just SHUT UP, ride the groove, and let's move now

[Chorus x2]
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two

[Verse Two: Gift of Gab]
When I stepped into the coliseum, I was slidin' through
Just bein' me, lovin' the space and lettin' everything be free
And bein' free to 'til I seen her, me, I popped up, solutions
Could it be? She was the one that could make me a believa?
Step through the crowd like a bobber and a weaver
Couldn't really see the crowd, all that I could see was HER
Looked directly in her eyes, all that I could see was blurred vision
Couldn't really tell if she was prime and ready furr pickin'
She was downin' that 'Yac in straight shots
Offered me a drink, I told her I was tryin' to stop
I thought to reconsider mackin', then she pulled off her top
and yelled, NEXT THING I KNOW, SHE WAS DOIN' THE WOP
She said, "Gabby, Gabby, Gabbyyy, you need to come and swig"
I said, "I think I'm cool, you need to find another nigga"
Baby, baby, baby PLEASE, then she dropped down to her KNEES
Then I had to leave, I didn't want to contract diseases
I said, "Don't take it personal, I think you need Jesus
You're movin' kinda fast, you need to stop and just breathe"
Hopin' she would have a clue, tell you what to do
Just SHUT UP, ride the groove and let's move, now..

[Chorus x2]
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two

[Verse Three: Pigeon John]
As soon as I walked in the DO'-woe-woe
The rati-o was in favor of me, 'cause as far as I could see
all the bitties on the FLO'-woe-woe
was movin' in such a way in the heat, kinda made me wanna pee
Leavin' ME wanting MO'-woe-woe
But I was scared, of major defeat, 'cause I saw the girl Lateef
was dancin' with sayin' NO-woe-woe
and Gab was wrestlin' with a freak who was topless
I was intimated to SHOW, any interest at ALL
I just stood still, pressed against the walllll (that's when I saw her)
Time froze, the ice around my heart e-RODED
Glasses she looked like a spy, wanna decode it
I said, "My name is Pi-Pi-Pigeon Johnny"
Stuttered a little bit, felt like a big DU-mmy
She said I didn't have a clue, she told me what to do -
She said, "SHUT UP and ride the groove"
I said, "Okay", like..

[Chorus x2]
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two now
Side to side to side, times two

Storyboard - 1st Verse and Chorus

We want to portray a club scene at the start of the video, as the first verses lyrics describe a man and a woman dancing in a club. Our plan is to start with a man (and probably a small entourage of men and women with him) walking into a club, inspired by the start of the 50 Cent video for "In Da Club". A lot of the first verse is going to be filmed with a dance-themed background, including actually filming inside a club and just having people dancing infront of a green screen. At other parts in the first verse, we will get shots of us 3 just sitting around talking, as the verses imply that what they're talking about happened in the past. The end of the verse has a slightly jokey feel about it so we'll honour that by trying to portray the lyrics in the video. We'll use plenty of different lighting. During the club shots it'll be darker in order to accurately show a night out at a night club, whilst the chorus, because it's notably lighter in style and flow, the lighting will be lighter. The times shot in the present will be both light and dark depending on the lyrics.

NEW TRACK - NEW PROPOSAL

Song choice - Blackalicious - Side to side

Pitch - We are aiming to produce a rap orientated video consisting of a performance driven piece but also include an abstract undertone to make the video appeal to a wide audience.
By concentrating on several characters - and allowing each member of the group to contribute to a verse of the track we will map out the lyrics by reflecting what is heared vocally by whats seen physically. This makes it easy to understand and relate to. Each verse is represented by a different member of the group each time and each member/character has a different story/morale to portray to the audience.

Locations -
Subway, club(s), bedroom, council estate (flats), inner city, various street shots, greenscreen performance shots, bar/pub, urban/crowded areas, London central areas/east london

Characters/appearance -
Three group members - dressed to match verse/part of song/location
other people in the video - typically dressed to represent everyday life

Embedded videos - student work

This video contrasts our key ideas of locations and surroundings for our music video as it also emphasises the behaviour of teenagers and boys.

This student video is also similar to our initial ideas as there is a large amount of green-screen used throughout the video.

Labels:

2 embeded videos from actual artits , suited to our track and ideas

This is an example of how we would want the video to look stylistically as in the use of a group of people enjoying themselves in a lively atmosphere but not a heavy reference as the video is for a different market.

this could be viewed as similar basically because of the dance off that takes place between two groups male and female

Key ideas and pitch for music video

song choice - track 1 - MIA-''Boyz''

PITCH
A video which depicts how girls view boys in modern day society. Covering various shots and images of a group of girls spying and confronting many sets and groups of boys in their comfort zones and lots of other locations, including (bashment) clubs, pubs etc.
We aim to use a lot of abstract ideas and imagery to portray the tracks up-tempo and whacky themes. We will do this by using the green-screen effect to create a coulouful/exciting atmosphere within the music video. There will be a lot of movement and dance orientated shots which key in with the genre of the piece.
To put across this sort of theme and idea we intend to use a wide variety of editing techniques and tricks to make the piece look ''funky'' and focus in on the audience we are trying to reach by making it street cultured.

We will attempt to shoot in varied locations to show variation and movement on screen as well as trying to add a sort of micro-story to make the audience aware of our intentions of voicing a morale perspective of males.
